| Summoned to jury duty 2 times. Both times assigned to juries. Verdicts came to pass twice. No matter how stupid the gangbanger was and how much he deserves to be put away, it was again a very weighty "yes (I agree he's guilty)" when the judge polled me in the jury box.
Prison isn't somewhere I wish for people to go.

| Don't know about at other sites, but trying to use the internet from 1100 to 1300 at work has been a painful experience for the past month. More than painful actually; next to impossible most of the time. Typical session: *click on link* ... waiting for reponse... *30 second pause* *timed out*. So, finally IT has stepped in with a band-aid: block more websites. In particular they called out auction, personals / dating, and chat sites. *Cue scores of lonely engineers wringing their hands in frustration* Heh.
Personally, I would've just blocked facebook. But I'm sure enough VPs want to track their buddies' updates so it'll probably never happen.

| A few more days until the big trip and it's barely registering. Seriously. It's not that I don't think about it, since it nudges me to go to the bank or buy new shoes|batteries|CF cards, but that's about as far as it goes. So to everyone out there who's been asking me the question "are you excited?", um, "kinda..." It almost feels like people are more excited for me than I am -- for bets on THAT matter go ahead and ping a particular R. Son -- but until I step on the plane my excitement level is going to be flat.
Speaking of airplanes, a China Airlines rep called me a few days ago and wanted to know why I was booked to fly back to LA from Taipei on 8/6 AND 8/8. Turns out there's another guy with the same exact name who is flying to Taiwan on the same flight. Heh, wonder if I'll meet him. | | |
| The latest addition to my camera bag is not a new SLR body or lens, or remotely gear-related. It, or rather he, is a duck. A plush duck to be exact. So without further ado, here's Larry:

He's only about 4 months old, but he's already accomplished one thing I (most likely) won't ever be able to: he's stowed away in a test aircraft with some Barbie dolls and flown to about 48,000 feet. (For comparison, the average airliner hits about 36,000ft cruising altitude.) And yes, old middle aged guys DO play with Barbie dolls, just not in the same way that little girls do.

That red strap around his neck you ask? His own camera. And his addiction is probably worse than mine.

So far he's gone on my adventures to Acadia and Great Smoky Mountains, and short of something disastrous he'll be coming along to Taiwan, New York City, and Yosemite as well.

| Getting into the Formosa Camp (aka 'Love Boat') is cool and all, but sometimes I wish I didn't. Okay, if I do come back with a significant other attached at the hip, maybe I'll eat those words. But for now I'm just screaming in agony at all the travel deals I had to pass up. The latest one? $490 round trip from LA to Lima, Peru for that Machu Picchu adventure I've been meaning to take. ARGH!!!Read more... | | |
